What is Emergency Lighting Testing?

Emergency lights are fixed luminaires that activate automatically when the main power supply fails. They are required in workplaces, offices, shops, schools, care homes and any commercial building where people need to evacuate safely in the dark.

Emergency lighting testing confirms that your lights are working correctly, that batteries hold their charge and that the system will function when it is actually needed. Without regular testing, faults can go undetected until an emergency occurs.

Emergency Lighting Testing Prices

Emergency lighting testing starts from £75 for up to 10 lights. Additional lights are charged at £5 each. Clear pricing, no hidden costs. Contact us for a quote if you have a larger site or multiple locations.

Emergency Lighting Testing FAQ

How often should emergency lighting be tested?

Emergency lighting should be tested monthly using a brief functional test (flick test) and annually using a full 3-hour discharge test. The 3-hour test checks that the battery can sustain the lights for the required duration. For more detail on testing requirements, read our guide on how often emergency lighting should be tested.

What is a 3-hour discharge test?

The 3-hour discharge test is the full annual test for emergency lighting. It involves switching off the mains power and allowing the emergency lights to run on battery for a full 3 hours. This confirms the battery capacity meets the required standard.

Do you provide a compliance report?

Yes. After every test we provide a written compliance report showing which lights were tested, their condition and whether they passed or failed. This gives you a clear record for your site.

How long does emergency lighting testing take?

The time depends on the number of lights and how accessible they are. A small site can often be completed within a couple of hours. We will give you an estimated time when you book.

What happens if a light fails?

Any failed lights are clearly identified in your compliance report. We will advise you on the most practical next steps, whether that means replacing a battery, fitting a new luminaire or arranging a follow-up visit.
